Many people
agree with me that today the only political party that is in the mainstream of
American political thought is the Libertarian Party. Why?
Because Libertarians are the only party to stand up for being
financially responsible as well as socially understanding; reducing the use of
our military all around the world; calling crony capitalism what it is, namely
welfare for the wealthy, and abolishing it; reducing over-incarceration, which
is in large part visited upon people of color and always at huge taxpayer
expense; increasing excellence in our schools by empowering parents to choose
where government money will be spent for the education of their children;
vastly reducing the number of licenses that governments require in order for
people to earn a living; imposing “Sunset Laws” for statutes, programs and
government agencies, which will vastly reduce the cost and complexity of
governments; and in implementing a fair and equitable system of
immigration.
So if Libertarians win most political discussions, why don’t
we win political elections? Because we
have allowed others to label us. As
such, we are often thought of as being greedy, “survival of the fittest,” in
favor of the over-use of drugs, and against all forms of government. Nonsense! Although I certainly don’t pretend to speak
for all Libertarians, those labels are simply not accurate. We believe that we should have a federal
government based upon the powers delegated to it by Article I, Section 8 of the
United States Constitution. But there is
nothing in this greatest document ever written by the human hand that provides
for the federal government to be involved in education, healthcare, controlling
the lives of Native Americans, or prolonged military fighting without a
Declaration of War from Congress. This
view is underscored by the Tenth Amendment, which expressly states that all
powers not delegated to the federal government by the Constitution are reserved
to the States and to the People. That means that Libertarians believe that
when there are functions that governments should play, they should be performed
by the most local government that can effectively carry them out. Or, better yet, they should be left to the
People – which is to say, to Liberty!
In that regard, please consider joining us to stand up for
Liberty. Show you agree with Dr. Milton
Friedman, who said that we should judge programs by their results instead of
their good intentions. And with Henry
Ford who, although he is not my favorite person socially because he was
probably Anti-Semitic, said that any people who believe they can thrive by
relying on the government should talk to the American Indian. Libertarians believe in, and have compassion
for, people. Thus we want to reduce the
power, cost and intrusion of government, and give more people an honest break
away from the expensive and inconsistent results from Big Government.
